Lithuania in a brief
Lithuania is the largest of the three Baltic states, bordered by Latvia, Belarus, Poland, and Russia (Kaliningrad). It covers 65,300 km² (25,200 square miles) with a population of 2.8 million people. Most residents are ethnic Lithuanians (82.3%), with Polish (6.2%) and Russian (5%) minorities, and 6.5% others (including Ukrainian, Belarusian, etc.), and the majority are Roman Catholic (74.2%). Lithuanian is the official language, and the country is a full member of the European Union using the Euro as its currency. The capital is Vilnius, followed by the former capital Kaunas and the port city of Klaipėda as the three main cities.
